NATIONAL Grid are looking for a partner to help develop its massive – and highly controversial – housing proposal for Southall’s Gasworks.

The mayor of London, Boris Johnson, forced through a proposal for at least 3,700 homes at a
site in The Straight in 2010
after it was shot down by Ealing Council.

A spokesman for National Grid said: “We are currently looking for a development partner for the site. A shortlist has been drawn up and these parties have been invited
to provide proposals in early
March 2012.

“The redevelopment of the 37.2 hectare site will create a 3,750-home residential-led scheme that will include commercial, office and retail space as well as public facilities.

“This development will make a major contribution to addressing Ealing and London’s urgent housing shortage.”
