A FORMER investment banker from Southall has made it through to the semi-finals of this year's Miss England contest.

Simran Gill, 24, from Dormers Wells Lane in Southall, already has experience in show-business as she has previously danced in the film hit film Bride and Prejudice.

She was on a holiday in Mumbai, India, when she found out she won the online photographic heat for Miss England after submitting pictures.

She said: “I didn’t expect to win, it was such a nice surprise.”

Miss Gill, who enjoys poetry, Bollywood Dancing and creative writing, also has a BSc honours degree and has worked as an investment banker for Barclays. She works as a volunteer helping victims of drugs and alcohol abuse and said she is keen to go into counselling.

The finals for Miss England will be held in Champney Springs, Leicester, this summer. The winner will represent her country at the Miss World contest, the date and venue of which are yet to be confirmed.
