Conclusions about who, if anyone, was responsible for the fatal South
Harrow gas explosion could be made public within weeks, the Observer can
reveal.

The blast on Wednesday, May 7 at 21 Stanley Road killed next-door neighbour
Emmad Qureshi, 26. Teenager Charlotte Anderson had to be dragged from the
rubble by heroic passers-by.

Six months on, the Metropolitan Police’s Putney-based homicide and
specialist crime directorate is about to receive the findings of tests
conducted by the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) laboratory in Buxton,
Derbyshire.

These will explain exactly how much gas had built up underneath the house
at 21 Stanley Road and how it got there, and on the basis of this crucial
information, detectives will decide whether this should lead to any
prosecutions.
