I WOULD be very sorry to hear that Pinner Fair would not be there anymore or even changed.

When I was small it was the highlight of the summer and on one occasion the headteacher said that if we all came to school in the morning he would allow us the afternoon off to go to the fair.

I also worked in Pinner and we had half days on Wednesday so we went to work in the morning and the fair in the afternoon or evening.

You wouldn’t have known the fair had been there on a Thursday morning.

The fair folk shopped in our shops and therefore trade was good. It was only one day and they were gone.

My Father used to help the Pettigroves putting up the carousel at the top of the High Street, we never missed a year going to the fair.

Maybe the reason it didn’t do so well this year was because Whitsun was changed for the Queen’s Jubilee. We always knew that Pinner fair was the Wednesday after Whitsun. It would then move on to Watford for the carnival.

I definitely would not like to see it moved. It is part of Pinner’s history.
