SOLDIERS motivated by the thought of a big evening curry hauled a two and a half ton World War Two artillery gun from Hammersmith to Uxbridge.

The Territorial Army soldiers, from the London Transport Regiment based on Hayes Bridge, raised over £6,000 for charity by conducting the strong-armed exercise on a sweltering-hot Saturday.

Two teams of soldiers took four hours and 28 minutes to pull the gun along the 13 mile route from Shepherd's Bush, along the Uxbridge Road, all the way to the town centre.

Captain Wayne Theobald, MBE, PSAO who co-ordinated the event on behalf of 562 Transport Squadron said "I am very proud of the team that worked very hard on a hot day to complete the course.

We would firstly like to thank all the Borough Councils, Highways Agencies and the Met Police for their assistance in allowing this event to happen."
