RUISLIP Conservative Club (RCC) has vowed to challenge a £665 fine it said it was unfairly given by government bureaucrats.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) brought three charges against the Ickenham Road social club, alleging it had failed to provide copies of accounts filed in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

After Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court ruled on the case on Tuesday last week, RCC chairman Frank Burkett said the club would appeal the fine.

He told the Gazette: “The FSA literally picked our name off a database just to keep themselves busy, and demanded we send them the original copies of documents dating back several years.

“We haven’t committed a crime, we just hadn’t kept the original copies.

“We’ve had a lot of changes at the club so we pleaded guilty with mitigating circumstances.

“We thought the magistrates would just give us a slap on the wrist but instead they fined us.”

RCC is a non-profit making club run by volunteers and which typically hosts entertainment such as darts, bingo and line dancing.

“We have been treated like we are some kind of big multinational company,” continued Mr Burkett. “It is complete nonsense.”
