Christmas is almost here and images don't get more festive than the snow scene taken in Furnival Gardens by reader Sarah Granville, whose 2009 picture tops the latest batch sent to us as part of the Hammersmith Society's competition.

The society is looking for the 50 best photos of Hammersmith, Shepherd's Bush, and West Kensington to comprise a specially commissioned collage to mark its 50th anniversary. The collection will be displayed at numerous public places in the borough.

Each week we'll be publishing the images that capture our imagination the most, but every picture sent in will be forwarded to the society.

Ms Granville, of Dalling Road, took her snowy snap in early 2009, which shows a mystery artist capturing the scene. "It's an inspirational picture," she said.

She also struck gold with another entry, showing a tree in Dalling Road bathed in late afternoon light.

Jim Rutter's autumnal picture of Ravenscourt Park offers a further illustration of the diversity of the borough. He explained: "I cannot believe that just half a mile down the road is Hammersmith Broadway," said Mr Rutter.

"My parents used to take me to the park when I was a toddler. I am now 57 and I still love the place all year round."

Neville Collins' picture shows a tiny black cat unfazed by the predators either side of it in front of a home in St Peter's Street.

Thanks to everyone who entered and we'll forward your pictures to society chairman Melanie Whitlock, who explained what she is after.

"It could be the view down the road as you set off for work, or a favourite river view or streetscene or house or shop. It could be a favourite spot in one of the parks or one of our heritage landmarks, like Hammersmith Bridge. Whatever the special places are, they will certainly be interesting, likeable and, no doubt, sometimes quirky. We want to log the places which local people hold near and dear."

* To enter, please email your pictures as JPGs at 300dpi to adamcourtney@trinitysouth.co.uk. State your name, age, address and outline in up to three sentences why your picture and/or place is special to you.
