THE snow which began to fall at about 8.30am today (Friday) has started to take a toll.

Slushy roads made for difficult driving conditions in the centre of Uxbridge ( pictured ).

The first reports of school closures are coming in: Ruislip High School in Sidmouth Drive sent pupils home at 11am.

Harefield Academy has told us it is to close at 12.30pm. Northwood School said it was planning to stay open until the normal time of 2.45pm.

Stockley Academy has closed as well.

Vyners School will close at 12.30pm, Hillingdon School at 1.30pm. Many schools including Hermitage Primary School, Hillingdon Primary and Ryefield Primary are giving parents the option to come and collect children early if they are worried about the weather.

Newnham Junior and Infant Schools in Ruislip, and Ruislip Gardens Primary School will also close at 1.30pm.

Barnhill Community High, in Yeading Lane, has altered today's lesson timetable and will be closing at 1.30pm.

Guru Nanak Academy, in Springfield Road, have no plans to close, but anxious parents are being allowed to collect their children, and teachers facing a long journey home are leaving early.

Greg Hall, deputy head, said: "Snow is fairly light and the roads are passable at the moment so we have no plans to close.

"We have a lot of children in the secondary and primary schools, and many parents will be working so we can't just let the pupils go."

Swakeleys School, in Clifton Gardens, Hillingdon, has shut for the day.

Harlington Community High, in Pinkwell Lane, dismissed its pupils at lunch as a safety precaution, but Hewens College, in Hewens Road, and Rosedale College Academy, in Wood End Green Road - jointly known as the Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust - are open as normal.

The following primary schools are to close after lunch - St Bernadette's, St Mary's, St Matthew's, Cowley St Laurence, Laurel Lane, and Botwell House Catholic Primary School.
