BRITAIN'S smallest Jubilee street party was held in the back of a Harrow taxi cab.

Colin Sinclaire, 58, known locally as Colin The Cabbie, decked out his taxi so he could share the celebrations with his customers.

His black taxi came complete with brass band music, bunting and a fold-out table of tasty treats including eloquent sandwiches and cakes.

The spread was put on at no extra cost to customers, and many customers made the most of the mobile Jubilee bash.

Mr Sinclaire, of Pearswood Gardens, Stanmore, works with GetTaxi and told the Observer: “I love celebrating a good British knees up, but I couldn’t afford not to work on the busiest weekend of the year. I didn’t want this to stop me from joining the fun, so I created what I named ‘Britain’s smallest mobile street party’.”

GetTaxi were so impressed with his idea, they decked out a fleet of 100 cabs up and down the country in the same way.

Elsewhere, the Mayor and Mayoress of Harrow, Councillor Nizam Ismail and his wife, Zarafaran, were among invited guests at a special Jubilee Sabbath at Stanmore’s Belmont United Synagogue.

The special guests, along with Councillor Barry Macleod-Cullinane, deputy leader of Harrow Conservatives, and Councillor Amir Moshenson (Cons), were warmly welcomed at the Vernon Drive synagogue, where a Union flag bedecked the platform housing the Holy Ark to mark the occasion.

As well as experiencing the traditional Sabbath morning service, the dignitaries were treated to readings from children of the congregation, in praise of the Queen and of connections between Judaism and the Jubilee.

The word Jubilee, the children explained, has its origins in the biblical book of Leviticus, where it says God commanded the Children of Israel to make every 50th year holy.

At the end of the service, the congregation joined together in singing the national anthem, rounding off a morning of patriotism and prayer.

“Belmont is proud to pay tribute to the Queen, and what a fabulous way to do so,” said synagogue Chairman Anthony Broza. “It was a privilege to have the Mayor, Mayoress and councillors with us on this historic morning. Their presence helped enhance what was a special and memorable day.”
