PUPILS did their bit for the environment by helping to clean up pavements around their school.

Children at Smallberry Green Primary, in Turnpike Way, Isleworth, listened intrepidly as the Hounslow recycling team told them about the importance of recycling their rubbish.

The three to eleven-year-olds also got treated to an insightful assembly from Hounslow Highways who enlightened them on the significance of litter picking.

The assemblies had an influence on the students because they pulled on their gloves to pick up litter from the nearby Old Pound Close estate last Wednesday (20) which was organised as a whole school Environmental Day.

Headteacher Sharon Crosland, 47, said: "It was a fantastic day, we succeeded in raising awareness, the children enjoyed the participation, and we hope that their education in the environment continues."
