Sporting pink ponytails and charity t-shirts members of a weight-loss group shed some pounds and raised some funds for Cancer Research UK.

Team Hanworth Healthies, of the Slimming World group run by Georgina Wallace , are on track to donate more than £750 after taking part in the Race for Life at Kempton Park.

The 13 runners trained together for the 5km event which took place on June 21.

Member Michelle Hammond said who ran in memory of her mum who lost her battle with cancer two years ago said: “This race for life was emotional for me, not only because it was my first but also because I was taking part for my mum who I lost suddenly to cancer two years ago.

"It will definitely be in my calendar for next year, I'm gonna kick cancers butt again and again."

Mrs Wallace from Feltham, who runs the group every Tuesday at The Scout Hut on Nallhead Road at 5.30pm and 7.30pm, which has won awards and participated in the Clothes Throw , added: “Many of us have taken part in the Race for Life in previous years but we decided to take part as a group to encourage each other in our training for the 5km event (although one member did register and complete the 10km walk!). 

"All of us have been affected by cancer at some point in our lives and raising money for the great work that Cancer Research UK do is something that is very close to our hearts.”

The 13 members of the Hanworth Healthies have lost an incredible 415.5lbs between them – that’s a total of 29 stone 9.5lbs over the last 8 months.

Brentford School for Girls sixth formers complete Race for Life at Richmond Park

One week earlier, a group of sixth formers from Brentford School for Girls sported shiny pink wigs in the Richmond Park Race for Life event drumming up £1,500 for Cancer Research.

Kate Coleman, head of 6th form said, “I am tremendously proud of our girls, who displayed commitment in training and in raising so much money for this fantastic cause.”
