The blaze first started in the early hours. Firefighters were called at 4.20am.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the small fire in a large skip behind a building in Cricket Field Road had been controlled but then flared up again, and firefighters were still on scene damping down at 7.10am when this picture was taken.

Smoke from the fire could be seen drifting between buildings and mingling with the fog which shrouded parts of the town centre.

The cause of the fire is not known. The building, which used to be the headquarters of Reliance Security, has been recently refurbished, and LFB said a lot of smoke had got into the building.
