A MAN has been jailed for six years for a stabbing in which he used a ‘gratuitous and unnecessary’ amount of violence.
Lloyd Barrett, 47, of Park Road, Harlesden, thrust a kitchen knife through the chest of victim Clifford Lamont following an argument before running off.
Barrett was jailed at Harrow Crown Court on November 2 having earlier admitted wounding with intent and dangerous driving.
The court heard that on October 7 last year, at 9.34pm, Mr Lamont had been talking with friends outside the Misty Moons pub in Manor Park Road, Harlesden, when Barrett pulled up in his car to collect his girlfriend from the venue.
The girlfriend told Barrett she was being harassed by the victim and the two men had an argument which led to Mr Lamont banging on the bonnet of the passenger side of Barrett’s red R-reg Toyota.
Barrett reversed his vehicle, mounted the kerb and drove at Mr Lamont but the intended target managed to jump out of the way and avoid being hit, and Barrett and his girlfriend drove off.
Later that evening, at 10.10pm, Mr Lamont was in the same road when Barrett approached him on foot and stabbed him in the left side of the chest with a large kitchen knife.
Barrett ran off along Crownhill Road towards Harlesden Gardens and the 47-year-old victim was taken to hospital with a wound to his upper chest and left ear.
The defendant was eventually arrested and charged with wounding with intent, for which he was jailed for six years, and dangerous driving, for which he was handed one month’s imprisonment, to run concurrently.
Detective Sergeant Owen White, of Brent Police's Violent Crime Unit, said after the sentencing: “This crime involved the suspect using gratuitous and unnecessary violence against the victim. The sentences reflected the severity of the crime.”
