SIX people were arrested in Hillingdon yesterday (June 11) as part of a raid to tackle gang culture.

The Metropolitan police carried out a series of raids in all 32 London boroughs in connection with Operation Blunt 2, aimed at reducing knife crime and youth violence.

Across London 140 people were arrested, with the raids specifically targeting those involved with gang violence.

Borough Commander of Hillingdon Carl Bussey said: "This operational activity in Hillingdon focused on local issues and concerns and is part of a sustained drive to tackle violent offenders.

"We are committed to preventing serious violence, particularly that affecting our young people. We recognise that the vast majority of young people are not involved with violent gangs or groups and we will seek ways of protecting them from the violent few. We are as concerned about young people potentially becoming victims as we are about those who may become perpetrators.

"The arrests today will no doubt impact on future crime.

"I hope this activity has reassured our communities of our determination to prevent violence of every kind. We do, of course, welcome any feedback on our operations as well as any information about those engaged in violent crime."
