CAN I take issue with Jackie Clark's pessimism about future resistance to a third runway (reference as above)?
Most of the fighters have not gone. To my knowledge, Linda McCutcheon is the only member of the NoTRAG committee to leave, taking a well-earned retirement in Cornwall.
The rest of us are still here, as are the residents in other boroughs who opposed Heathrow expansion. Furthermore, other opponents such as John McDonnell, John Randall and Nick Hurd, Hillingdon Council and the other councils in the 2M Group, the GLA, National Trust, HACAN, Greenpeace and Plane Stupid are still on the scene as well.
We are ready to oppose should BAA come back with new proposals for a third runway. We are all very much stronger as a result of the successful battle we have fought over recent years; having beaten it once we can certainly beat it again.
Harmondsworth and Sipson Residents' Association is still in existence. I attended its last meeting.
I also attended a highly constructive meeting this week on the regeneration of Sipson, called by HCT.
I appreciate the situation looks bleak at the moment but this does not mean the village can't be turned round in time.
