A primary school has transformed itself from Satisfactory to Good in its latest Ofsted inspection.

Belmore Children’s Centre, Nursery and Primary School in Owen Road, Hayes, converted to become Belmore Primary Academy in 2012.

The school, sponsored by Barnhill Community High in Yeading Lane, Hayes, is part of the Barnhill Partnership Trust.

Ofsted inspectors found the school improved significantly since its last Ofsted inspection, before it became an academy.

In the previous assessment in 2012, the school received a Satisfactory rating, but in its latest inspection in July this year, it was graded Good in all categories and Good overall.

Headteacher Paul Bateman, who joined the school last September, said he was absolutely delighted with the outcome and with his pupils impressive Key Stage 1 and 2 SATs results for 2014.

“They are just rewards for the hard work and dedication of all members of the Belmore Academy Family, including pupils, staff, governors and parents,” he said.

“We are already working on taking the school to Outstanding.”

The key findings for parents and pupils were:

Teaching across the academy is good

The work of Teaching Assistants is impressive

Pupils are safe and secure

Adults look after the children well and care for them

There is strong leadership from the headteacher, other senior leaders and governors

Pupils’ achievement across the academy has shown significant improvement since joining The Barnhill Partnership Trust at the end of 2012.

Ofsted found teaching assistants to be "impressive" and teaching across Belmore Primary Academy was good

Executive headteacher of the trust, Robert Lobatto, said: “It’s been great to see the improvements over the last two years, and the impact that this has had on the children.

“We now hope to achieve Outstanding at our next inspection,” he said.

According to the Ofsted rating system: “A good school is effective in delivering outcomes that provide well for all its pupils’ needs. Pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education, training or employment.”

The Ofsted report set out how the school could improve from Good to Outstanding by: “Making sure that teachers regularly adapt the tasks set for pupils according to their different abilities in order to provide appropriate levels of challenge for all.

“Giving pupils opportunities to reflect on and respond to teachers’ marking of their work.

“Develop the skills of new leaders to check the effectiveness of their areas of responsibility.”
