SEETHING workers suffered another commute from hell on Thursday after a signal failure on the District line caused severe delays.

A malfunction at Embankment caused misery for thousands of Hammersmith and Fulham commuters, including MP Greg Hands who was delayed at Fulham Broadway,

Mr Hands tweeted: "Really severe delays on District Line for me and 1000s of my constituents. On the roads, multiple roadworks mean gridlock."

Thursday was the third morning in a row of trouble on the District line. The problems caused Chronicle journalist Rupert Basham to be late for work and he arrived in the newsroom fuming.

He said: "This is getting beyond a joke. Transport for London need to get their act together before the Olympics otherwise London will be overrun."

Other Twitter users contacted the Chronicle with their gripes. @Chef_Tom wrote: "TfL is a disgrace. How much have they spent on upgrading it and it's worse than ever."

@BorisWatch replied: "TfL have hardly spent anything on the District (or Piccadilly)." @creativelycat wrote: "Look like I will be walking everywhere today then." @CarlGavaghan said: "If you want some sweary, angry comments I'm only to happy to oblige."

We are awaiting comment from TfL, which has advised people to avoid the line.
