WATCHING the arrival of the Great Britain team back after their so successful Olympic games and all looking forward to the London Olympics in 2012, makes me so disappointed in the short-sighted view of Brent Council.

The Wembley Park Sports ground could be developed into a first class facility for training more young people in sports, not only to compete at that Olympics but to develop a healthy and positive attitude to sport for the whole of their lives.

Instead the council has closed its eyes to other sites which are possible, as well as much better sited for a new school, and are pushing ahead with the academy.

An academy over which the council will has no control. An academy that will use the grounds for its benefit, as one would expect, not for the community. An academy in the wrong place.

If the council had moved earlier regarding the proper siting of the school it could have been open by now. Instead it blames those of us who know Wembley Park is wrong for a school who have been dedicated in our opposition to the plan. Schools should be built where they are needed in the south of the borough.

We have children's education at heart, the education of the whole child including to develop a healthy lifestyle.

Wembley Park is an inspirational place. It is the council who are following their dogmatic and blinkered views. Think again, it is not too late.
