THOUSANDS have been left without power this morning (Thursday) as a powercut has struck in Ruislip, leaving shops using candles to provide light.

West Ruislip train station in Ickenham Road, is badly affected, with Oyster card readers not functioning.

Newsagents and shops near to the station have been using candles to stay open, to provide light, and owners said that many of their customers have been reporting that their homes are also without power.

To add to the morning misery, tube users were also delayed this morning when both the Picadilly and Metropolitan lines were hit with severe delays in and out of Uxbridge, after a signal failure at Rayners Lane.
