A CRIME is committed in a Hounslow school an average of more than once a day,the Chronicle can reveal.

In the last five years police have been called to one of the borough's 14 secondary schools 1,084 times and made 204 arrests for offences including assault, bomb hoaxes, possession of drugs and racial attacks.

The shocking figures, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, come just days after Scotland Yard revealed there had been 195 sexual assaults in London schools in the last year.

Deputy leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Mark Bowen, described the figures as 'disturbing' and pledged to look into tackling the problem.

Feltham Community College came up as the most crime-ridden school - the 172 crimes committed there equate to almost one a week during term time. Perhaps more worrying for the school in Browells Lane are the 31 arrests that have been made there - more than one in seven of the 204 borough-wide.

Not all of the offences would have been committed by or on pupils, as the figures include burglary, but police refused to give details of individual incidents.

They did reveal that 30 of the 1,084 were race-related and at least 116 were violent crimes.

The list does show that police were called to a bomb hoax at Heston Community School in Heston Road and that drugs were found at Feltham Community College, The Heathland School, in Wellington Road South and Hounslow Manor School.

Two pupils at Hounslow Manor were arrested in March when a protest about Red Nose Day being 'banned' spiralled out of control. They were among 14 people arrested at the school in Prince Regent Road in the last five years.

Other crime hotspots showed up as Chiswick Community School, where 161 crimes were recorded over five years, including 19 violent assaults and at least 20 incidents of stealing, and Cranford Community School - where there were 22 arrests.

A spokeswoman for Hounslow Council said: "There is now a police safer neighbour-hood team on every ward in the borough, each engaging with young people on their wards.

"Additionally, there are six safer schools officers supported by three schools PCSOs providing visible policing in the schools from officers who are known by pupils and staff alike."
