SOUTHALL MP Virendra Sharma is donating a bag of his clothes to charity and has appealed to Ealing residents to follow his example.
The Labour MP set the tone by delivering a bag of his unused outfits to the Cancer Research UK shop in West Ealing as part of the Choose Charity Shops campaign.
Charity shops are experiencing a boom in sales since the recession and many are struggling to keep up with the increased public demand. In response charities are asking people to ‘Dig it Out, Bag it Up, Drop it Off’.
Mr Sharma said: “Cancer Research UK’s shops rely on donations from the public to help fund their life-saving work. So I encourage everyone to clear out their wardrobes and cupboards of unwanted clothes, CDs, DVDs, books and quality household goods and drop them off.”
Emma Markarian, manager of Cancer Research’s West Ealing shop added: “We’re always on the lookout for news volunteers, so if you feel like you could donate a few hours of your time, please come along to the shop and ask a member of staff.”
