Summer Holidays are a chance to get away from day-to-day life and enjoy a well earned break.

In previous articles we have looked at getting in shape for Summer; in this post I am looking at what exercise you do when you are actually on holiday if, indeed, any at all. To highlight this I thought I would share my experiences on a recent holiday to Spain:

In recent times I have never exercised during a holiday abroad, but I am gradually changing my view on this and during a holiday in Spain, earlier this year, I actually exercised 4 times in one week!

We all work really hard most of the year and your holidays are a time to relax, eat, drink and be merry. During our Spanish holiday I started to think that part of my relaxation would be to hit the hotel gym and also go for a run in some warm weather for a change!

During my working week it can be really difficult to find time to work-out and I actually work in a gym, but being on holiday means that you actually have more time for doing the things that relax you and maybe that includes exercise?

So, instead of cramming in a quick 30 minute workout as usual, I found I had plenty of time to go the gym or have a run under the Spanish sun and with this extra time came a more enjoyable workout. I wasn’t thinking about my next client turning up or if I had time to actually sit down for lunch, or will I get to the bank before it closes;  I actually had enough time to really concentrate on my workout.

Also, having our little girl with us on holiday is obviously a joy but every now again you need an hour to yourself, don’t you?

Mrs Summers also had a bit of down-time for her swims so it wasn’t just all about me!

So, let me know your thoughts on this subject; do you find exercise more enjoyable when you  are on holiday or do you think that you work hard enough at home and just forget about exercise altogether on holiday?
