I write with regard to the article by Richard Mayhew-Smith (Swanning around down Henley way, Chronicle, April 24).

I have been enjoying your accounts of your Thames walks. I am a great history buff myself, especially of London's past, and of course the city and the river are inextricably linked.

However, at the risk of appearing pedantic, I should point out that my understanding is that the term 'holt' specifically refers to the lair of an otter, whereas badgers inhabit 'sets' (or even 'setts', as some older authorities have it).
