A STABBER who attacked a teenage stranger in Harrow town centre during a break from a career advice meeting is due to be sentenced today.

Andre MacCarthy, 20, of Francis Road, Harrow, injured his victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, with a broken bottle in the middle of St Ann's Road, Harrow, on September 3 last year.

MacCarthy admitted wounding the 16-year-old with intent at Harrow Crown Court on January 28 and is due back for sentencing today.

The previous hearing was told the defendant had left career advice centre Connexions, in nearby College Road, to go to a Londis supermarket, where he purchased the glass drinks bottle before planning to return to Connexions.

However MacCarthy became involved in an altercation with the victim - who he did not know - in which he smashed the bottle to use as a weapon.

Simon Wild, prosecuting, told the court that closed circuit television footage examined by police officers showed MacCarthy making three swings with a bottle before a bus arrived and blocked the view.

The victim, who is now 17, sustained an injury to the left arm and a chip to the bone.

Police officers brought Harrow town centre to a standstill at 2.45pm when they were called so forensic work could be carried out in the area around the statue of Skipping Katie.

MacCarthy is on court bail with a condition he obey a curfew of 7pm until 6am that is monitored by electronic tag.
