HOUNSLOW borough residents woke up to a light sprinkling of snow this morning compared to other parts of the South East, which have suffered a deluge.

Just one school across the borough has been closed today, Hounslow Heath Junior School, and it is expected to open again tomorrow.

Hounslow Council said no other schools have been closed during the cold snap.

The decision to close Hounslow Heath Junior School was taken as staff experienced difficulties getting into work.

Gritter lorries have been extra busy this week, covering the roads since Monday as forecasts worsened.

The council has this year bought three extra gritters to add to the fleet, which have been hard at work over the past few days.

A spokesman for the authority said there were no road closures as a result of the weather conditions. He said: "We’ve had no reports of any and CCTV is showing no problems across the borough.

"The gritters have been out in force since Monday and we’re doing well".
