SANTANDER in Uxbridge was closed this morning (Wednesday) because of a 'major security issue' but the bank has said there is no danger to the public.

A spokeswoman for the bank reassured customers and said the problem had been caused by fault with the protective shutters used inside the branch.

She told the Gazette: "They have a problem with the screens that come up and down, we are waiting for someone to come and fix it and should reopen this afternoon."

A sign on the door of the branch in Uxbridge High Street said: "Due to a major security issue the branch will be closed until further notice".
