THE FORMER headteacher and deputy head of a school have been charged with fraud.

Sir Alan Davies, 64, former headteacher of Copland School in Cecil Avenue, Wembley, was charged on Tuesday following a two-year police investigation into the alleged misappropriation of school funds.

Sir Davies, of Grants Close, Mill Hill, faces charges of conspiracy to defraud, money laundering, conspiracy to commit false accounting and fraud by abuse of position.

The former deputy head, Richard Evans, 55, of Barnet Road, Barnet, was charged on Wednesday with conspiracy to defraud and fraud by abuse of position.

Both have been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 12.

The Metropolitan Police Fraud Squad began an investigation into allegations associated with the schools finances in June 2010.

School bursar, Columbus Odukoro, and former head of human resources, Michelle Bishop, resigned from the school. Governors were suspended and an interim board was set up to run its finances.

- Five other people were arrested in connection with the enquiry and have been bailed to return on various dates in May pending further enquiries.
