Ealing North MP Stephen Pound, Radio 4 broadcaster Harriet Cass and local poet Anne Harvey read seasonal excerpts from the work of renowned authors at Ealing Choral Society's carol concert on Saturday.

The event at St Barnabas Church, in Pitshanger Lane, raised £2,300 for Bereft, a charity based in Acton that offers bereavement counselling to Ealing residents.

The readings included the work of Dylan Thomas and John Betjeman. As well as Christmas carols, there were performances by the choir and a piano solo by Charles Economou, a well-regarded soloist and and the choral society's accompanist.

Wine and mince pies in the Millennium Hall rounded off the evening.

The popular local choir has been presenting Christmas concerts for many years and usually donates the proceeds to a charity.
