GREASE was the word for youngsters who stormed the new stage at Greenford Hall with an all-singing, all-dancing show.

The Greenford and District Scouts and the Greenford Guides entertained guests with their Lights on Broadway production on Thursday, Friday and Saturday last week.

Youngsters sang big tunes including numbers from musical Grease, an Abba medley and Mustang Sally around a life-size, red 1950s car constructed by a team of dedicated volunteers.

Scout leaders feared a few weeks ago that the show might have to be axed due to particularly low ticket sales, but decided to go ahead at the last minute after a small boost in sales and for the sake of the young performers.

Producer Tracy Minson said: "A massive well done to the cast who worked on the show since September. They should be very proud of the fantastic show they achieved at the newly refurbished Greenford Hall.

"The shows progressively got better and better with a larger audience each evening with almost a full house for the Saturday matinee."

Despite the earlier setbacks the children and scout leaders hope to put on a bigger show next year after positive reaction from residents.

Another dance show in May will be held in memory of their lighting director Jamie Ryder who passed away in September last year from an aneurysm to the heart.

They collected £208 this weekend for the British Heart Foundation and all proceeds from the show on Saturday, May 5 at Winston Churchill Theatre in Ruislip will also support the charity.
