A SCOUT group has celebrated 70 years of cooking, climbing and camping with a party at its base in Eastcote.

The 5th Eastcote Scouts started in difficult circumstances during the Second World War in 1941 but has grown to serve hundreds of youngsters over the years, providing training in outdoor activities and citizenship.

A celebration at St Andrew’s United Reformed Church on December 5 was attended by Councillor Catherine Dann (Eastcote and East Ruislip), who presented gifts to the 45 beavers, cubs and scouts.

Roy Cadoux, an executive member of the scout group, said: “Former scouts and leaders covering the decades going all the way back to the 1950s turned up. It was a great night.”
