CHART-topping local pop trio Scouting For Girls have been given an honorary musician badge by the Scouting movement.

The band, who grew up in the South Harrow and Ruislip areas, were chosen by the Scout Association's half a million members as public figures who have encouraged others to try new activities and learn new skills.

The group's success – they topped the albums chart with their self-titled début EP and hit number one in the singles chart in April with 'This Ain't A Love Song' from their second album – helped bagged them a place among the Scout Association's Birthday Honours List.

Lead vocalist Roy Stride said: "Thanks to the Scouts for giving us the Musician Badge.

"It’s great that Scouting encourages young people to take up musical instruments - record labels everywhere take note.

"I met Pete, the drummer, when we were both starting out as Cubs, so Scouting holds a very special place in our hearts."

Holly Northwood, 19, an assistant scout leader from Edgware who helped present the Birthday Badges to the famous faces, said: "It was really tough when I voted as there were so many excellent choices in each category.

"I chose Scouting for Girls because their songs are great and they’re brilliant role models."
