HARROW Heritage Trust held an opening evening to show off the borough's historical buildings and parks and promote the work it and others do to preserve them.

More than 130 guests attended the event, held at the Zoroastrian Centre in Alexandra Avenue, South Harrow, a restored art deco cinema that was highly commended in the trust's biennial architecture awards.

Trust chairman Martin Verden said: "Heritage is our business, and the purpose of this meeting is to show what is being done in Harrow as well as getting a broader brush of the heritage world out-side.

"Harrow Heritage Trust's exhibition displays several facets of our work, such as the brown plaque scheme, the sponsoring of public works of art, grants and advice for repairs to listed buildings and encouraging young people to foster our heritage."

Guest speaker on Wednesday was Diana Beattie, director of the Heritage of London Trust.
