Schools in Hounslow are vying for your vote after being shortlisted for new reading award by Kew Bookshop.

Beavers Community Primary School, in Hounslow, and Victoria Junior School, in Feltham, have both made the final six of the shop's 'Achieving through Reading' sponsorship award.

They now need your help to secure the top prize, which includes a free book for every pupil on World Book Day this March 5, £200 of additional books and two free visits by authors or illustrators.

All state-funded primary schools in the boroughs of Richmond, Hammersmith and Fulham, Wandsworth, Ealing and Hounslow were invited to apply for the award, which was set up to support those schools which might otherwise struggle to fund such reading resources.

Beavers, in Arundel Road, said in its application: "Our school is made up of 51 languages, so developing children's language and reading skills is of high importance."

Victoria Juniors, in Victoria Road, wrote: "Many of our children do not have access to books at home, and levels of literacy at home are low. We firmly believe that books lie at the heart of good learning."

The other shortlisted schools are Nelson Primary, in Whitton; Heathfield Infants and St Stephen's Primary, both in Twickenham; and West Hill Primary, in Wandsworth. Voting is now open at http://www.kewbookshop.co.uk/kew-bookshop-school-awards.
