Mystery surrounds the  absence from school of one of the borough’s top headteachers.

Uxbridge High School principal Peter Lang is away from the school in The Greenway, Uxbridge. A vice-principal, believed to be Judith Barton, is absent too.

In a statement this afternoon (Tuesday), the school, which has academy status and so operates autonomously of Hillingdon Council, said in a statement: “We can confirm that the principal and a vice-principal of Uxbridge High School have taken a voluntary leave of absence.

“It would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time.”

Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall. meet Peter Lang during their visit to the school in 2012.

The Department for Education, to which the school answers directly, has been asked for more information.

Other head teachers contacted by getwestlondon said they were in the dark about the situation, although they had heard rumours.

Hillingdon Police has confirmed it is not investigating.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visited the school in February 2012, pictured, and in January this year, Brentford FC opened a training facility built in the school grounds. Football Association chairman, Greg Dyke, who was Brentford chairman at the time, officiated.
