THE recent announcement that Kensington and Chelsea Council has given the go-ahead for the redevelopment of Holland Park School comes as no surprise.

With no contingency plan in place which would have allowed the borough to tap into the £30m of government funding - for which it has been earmarked for the purpose of upgrading the school in this financial year - and faced with a need to write off over £8m of development funding if their £75m scheme was abandoned, the borough left itself with little or no room for manoeuvre. The fact remains, however, there are still many unresolved issues which may leave the council vulnerable to legal challenge and we shall be reviewing our options over the coming weeks.
