A POP-UP cinema is appearing for two days at this year's summer festival – the first time the area has seen a screen for more than four years.

Nomad Cinema, which donates all its profits to charity, will be showing three films at the big top tent in Walpole Park. It will begin with School of Rock (PG) a family-friendly matinee on Sunday July 14.

The 2003 film stars Jack Black who poses as a substitute teacher at a prep school and tries to turn his class into a rock band. The comedy continues in the evening with This Is Spinal Tap (15). Made in 1982, it follows spoof British heavy metal group Spinal Tap as they attempt a comeback tour in America.

Comedian Adam Buxton will appear in person for the final screening on Monday evening to give his humorous take on music videos he has found on the web and on the online community in general. It is a special edition of BFIs music video show BUG.

The films will be shown after the comedy festival, which starts the fun at Walpole Park on Friday, July 12, and will be replacing the opera in the park.

The change was partly down to falling ticket sales for the opera in past years and difficulties this year in organising the event in time.

Council leader Julian Bell, said: "Central Ealing has been without a cinema for more than four years, so I’m absolutely thrilled that outdoor films will be offered as part of the Ealing Summer Festival. The team at Nomad have cleverly crafted a cinema programme to compliment and build upon the existing summer festival events.”

Tickets for Nomad’s screening will be available in the coming weeks.

The charity raises cash for the Sustainability Institute which provides education and support to people living in South Africa.
