THE Mayhew Animal Home in Kensal Green held its annual open day to raise funds for the cats, dogs and rabbits at the rescue centre.

Every summer, the charity opens its doors to the public so they can see inside the home and meet some of the four-legged residents.

Trenmar Gardens was host to a traditional street party, with live music, entertainment, barbecue, gift stalls and much more.

This year's event featured acrobatics, performances from Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist Jackie Prescott and her dog Tippytoes, as well as The Mayhew's dog show and tours of the home's own veterinary clinic.

Fran Llewellin, events coordinator, said: "Every year we open the doors to our friends to come and see some of our amazing facilities and meet some of our animal residents.

"They also get a behind the scenes peek at some areas which are usually out of bounds to the general public.

"It was a wonderful day, with more than a thousand visitors turning up to visit the home, meet some of our homeless cats and dogs and enjoy browsing our range of stalls, grabbing a bite to eat and watching our entertainment and dog shows.

"We can't wait to do it all again in 2011 when The Mayhew will be 125 years old."
