PEOPLE fighting plans to build a Sainsbury’s in Northwood will meet with land owners to discuss a plan B after it was confirmed original plans have been scrapped.

Executives from Transport for London (TfL), which owns the land in Station Approach threatened by the development, withdrew plans after 7,000 tenants and residents signed a petition against the proposed 47,000 sq ft store, car park and flats, which would have been built in place of around 20 successful family businesses.

Nick Hurd, MP for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner, ward councillors and Tony Ellis, chairman of Save Our Northwood campaign, will meet in Parliament on February 25 to discuss a scheme more in line with the needs of the town.

“TfL have assured us that the current scheme is withdrawn and there will be no action without local engagement,” said Mr Hurd.

“That is testimony to the residents of Northwood who united to say ‘no’.”
