A PLAN to expand the Sainsburys store in Uxbridge was given approval for a second time at a meeting last week.

Councillors from Central and South Planning Committee first gave the thumbs up for the supermarket, in York Road, to expand to two storeys in November.

Certain conditions were attached which have been met and bosses of the store also made a request for some changes, including permission to store goods in its service yard and a reduction of the retail floorspace needed.

The committee gave the plans a second go-ahead at its meeting on Tuesday night.

As well as extra retail space, the expanded store will include a cafe, a childrens learning centre and a car parking deck.

Sainsburys must now make a number of financial contributions towards improvements in the area, as part of a section 106 agreement entered into by all major developers.

The money will go towards parking management, landscaping, construction training for residents, CCTV, sprucing up the town centre and improving air quality.
