SAINSBURY’S could have a presence in Hayes town, after entering talks to open a store at a petrol station.

The supermarket is in negotiations with Total over a Sainbury’s Local to be installed in Hayes service station, in Coldharbour Lane.

Total has applied for planning consent to demolish and rebuild the petrol station, saying it is unable to ‘fulfil its existing roles as a modern petrol station serving the surrounding area or as a top-up shopping destination’.

Sainsbury’s has a superstore less than a kilometre away at Lombardy retail park, and rival Tesco opened a Tesco Express store in the High Point Village development, in Station Road, Hayes. ASDA is awaiting a decision on its appeal over refusal to allow a large store in Millington Road, Hayes.
