EARLIER this year,Ian Newtion, better known as Scoobie Santino, was brutally murdered in the underpass beneath Greenford roundabout. Whoever is responsible is still at large.

Greenford resident Diana Jordan is now gathering signatures in a petition to improve safety at the site, including better CCTV.

Her work is a credit both to her and the 500 members of the community who have signed the document, including Ealing North MP Steve Pound.

Ms Jordan will present the petition later this month to Ealing Council, and it will then be up to the authorities to make sure any red tape is kept to a minimum, so that the underpass becomes safe and secure for people of all ages.

Stop and go

THE Streets for People improvement proposals have been on the table for three years - and it could be the case that the plans will now have to go back to the drawing room.

It is surely now time for a final decision to be taken and for work to begin on the Pitshanger Lane improvements, for the benefit of all users.

Let's hope that the suggestions and views expressed by residents, parents and traders at last week's meeting are considered and a final plan is drawn up before more time is wasted and conditions are allowed to deteriorate.
