ARTISTIC students hunted for rainbow elephants and dazzling lions within a safari exhibition at Harrow Civic Centre.

Pupils and teachers from nine schools opened a display of fibreglass animals, which were bought by the schools with funding from the John Lyon’s charity and decorated by pupils in an array of colours and patterns.

The Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Mrinal Choudhury. joined staff and pupils from Grimsdyke Primary, Marlborough Primary, Weald Junior, Weald Infant, Cedars Manor, St John’s CofE School, Stanmore, St Teresa’s Catholic Primary, Shaftesbury High and Kingsley High at the event on Tuesday.

Mr Choudhury said: “This is a great exhibition that is sure to brighten the borough. I was delighted to see the sculptures and to be part of the exhibition’s first stop on its cultural journey around our borough.”

The animals, which included elephants, rhinos, lions, a hippo, a tiger and a gorilla, were used in various lessons at the schools to help children learn about geography, conservation and biology.

The exotic group will be moving to shop windows in North Harrow, to Harrow Arts Centre and to schools.
