WITH reference to Mr Wingate's letter (Rail must connect with Heathrow, Letters, March 24), I am willing to bet that Mr Wingate's home is not about to be bulldozed to make way for the third runway and neither will it be affected by the proposed route of the rail link.

Do we detect a strong smell of self-interest in his letter, combined with an attitude of: "To hell with you Jack, I'm fireproof "?

If my assumptions are correct, perhaps he should keep a lower profile and not expose his selfishness to the rest of us.

May I state that I am not seriously affected by either development but my sympathies lie with those who are. Many of these people will have worked hard to make a home only to have its value depreciated or rendered unsaleable.

Another safe bet is that any compensation offered will not reflect its true market price.
