FUNDRAISERS from Ruislip made a superhuman effort to raise cash for a nearby charity.

Members of the Social Buddies group set out on a 9km sponsored walk around Tring Reservoir dressed as superheroes and film characters.

It is one of a series of events that has raised nearly £1,300 for RAFT, the Restoration of Appearance and Function Trust, which operates out of the Mount Vernon Hospital site, Rickmansworth Road, Northwood.

The charity is one of the leading wound healing charities and carries out pioneering research into practical and affordable ways to save and repair skin.

Organiser Eamon Burrows said: “We regularly support RAFT to raise money to help the amazing research they carry out. I decided a 9km walk would be a great activity to do as we’ve been having such great weather finally and it’s great to get out and about.

“A group of us got together from Social Buddies and we all dressed as superheroes which made it such fun and very visual for the locals out on a walk! Everyone in Tring was very supportive and we managed to raise nearly £1,300, combined with a five a side football tournament and disco we put on earlier in the year.”

Leonor Stjepic, chief executive of RAFT, said: “We are so grateful that Social Buddies have picked RAFT to raise money for and we love seeing the efforts they put in to create fun and worthy events.”

Social Buddies is a group for anyone aged between 30 and 55. Members put on a wide choice of events each week including pub nights, live music, quizzes, meals, theatre and cinema trips, sporting events and charity fundraisers.
