An independent builders' merchants based in Ruislip has been bought by an international, multi-billion pound firm.

Crescent Building Supplies, which also has branches in Hillingdon, Uxbridge and Maidenhead, has become part of Grafton Group plc and is being integrated into the Buildbase division of its company Grafton Merchanting GB Ltd.

The group says the acquisition will not affect jobs and there are no plans to close or expand any of the existing branches, although the stock range will be increased at each.

Mark Kelly, CEO of Grafton Merchanting GB Ltd, said: “We are delighted to be able to extend our offering to building professionals across the South East. As well as welcoming new customers, we can reassure existing customers that they will retain all of their existing terms as well as the added benefit of being able to trade across the wider Buildbase UK branch network.

"We look forward to working with the Crescent Building Supplies team, who we are sure will benefit from being part of a larger group.”

The group trades from 591 branches across the UK, Ireland and Belgium and has an annual turnover of more than £2billion. The acquisition has increased the number of Buildbase branches it runs to 200.

The group has not revealed how much it paid for Crescent Building Supplies, but the company had revenue of £10.5million in the 2014 financial year.
