HOUNSLOW'S only recycling centre could be closed tomorrow (Saturday) as snow and icy conditions continue to cause problems across the borough.

Hounslow Council has warned residents to expect further disruption over the weekend, with experts forecasting little let up in the freezing conditions.

The borough's only rubbish tip, in Space Waye, Feltham, closed early today and is expected to open late or remain closed all day tomorrow. Visitors are advised to ring ahead on 020 8890 0917.

The borough's libraries and leisure centres, however, are expected to remain open as usual throughout the weekend.

Hanworth Air Park is making the most of the conditions by holding a snowman-building contest tomorrow and Sunday.

Many schools in Hounslow closed early today (Friday) and Feltham Community College has already announced plans to open at 10.30am on Monday. It is not known whether any other schools plan to follow suit.

Most waste collections were completed today and rubbish in those roads which could not be reached is due to be collected first thing on Monday.

Hounslow Council said it would continue to monitor conditions over the weekend and gritters would be out in a bid to keep roads as clear as possible. However it warned people to expect some traffic and travel disruption.
