Rubbish is being left to pile up on the streets of Hounslow as collections are repeatedly missed, frustrated residents have reported.

People living in Heston and Bedfont have complained of waiting up to a week beyond their usual collection date for their waste and recycling to be picked up.

One man in Heston Grange, near Heston Park, who asked not to be named, sent these photos of bags spilling onto the street.

He said as of yesterday the collection was seven days overdue, despite 'numerous' complaints to Hounslow Council, and the sacks were attracting flies and rats.

A woman living on Bedfont's Hatchett estate, meanwhile, said this week she had been waiting five days for bin bags to be collected and her neighbours had reported seeing rats.

Hounslow Council leader Steve Curran said: "I personally apologise to residents regarding these missed collections which is completely unacceptable.

"Officers contacted SITA to instruct them to empty the bins which has been done. We will be seeking assurances that missed collections will be kept to an absolute minimum."

getwestlondon has contacted SITA, which manages kerbside collections across the borough, and is awaiting a response.

The missed collections are not known to have affected streets in which wheelie bins have introduced.
