A humble Hammersmith street's Royal Wedding party looks set to be beamed into millions of homes after an American TV network expressed interest in covering the celebrations.

Executives at ABC, which has an English office in Hammersmith, caught wind of the planned party in Aldensley Road and want to spend the day filming there.

Organiser Susan Weintraub, 50, said: "It's amazing really. I have a friend who knows someone at ABC and she said she'd see if they were interested and before I knew it I had a phone call.

"The Amercians love the Royals and apparently it's going to go crazy over there. To think our little road is going to be featured all over the country is surreal."

The news comes as preparations in H&F for the big day, on April 29, step up a gear. So far ten streets around the borough have signed up to party.

Mrs Weintrub, who has three children, Isabella, 11, Oliver, nine, and Eva-Marie, six, with husband Mark, decided to embrace the event after remembering how the Silver Jubilee of 1977 brought the community together.

She has chivvied together help from neighbours and landlord of The Andover Arms, Tom Gavaghan, and has so far organised food, music and bunting. Local businesses, including Innocent, have also got into the spirit by donating goods.

"People are really getting into it. It's an ethnically diverse area and the neighbours are making Ugandan food, Kurdish food and we are going to have a barbecue.

"A few of my friends are going to have a jamming session and someone has offered to DJ. We're also going to have a Punch and Judy for the children.

"I don't think you have to be a Royalist to enjoy this. We already have a strong sense of community spirit here and this will enforce that."

In Brook Green, a group of eight residents are organising festivities in Bute Gardens. John Higgins, 48, said: "We are hoping for at least 100 people to come. We will have the tea on tap but we are going to ask everyone to bring food and hope people will turn up with lots of home-made cakes and biscuits."

Cllr Harry Phibbs, H&F Council's cabinet member for community engagement, has been delighted with the response of residents.

"I look forward to seeing the bunting out and hundreds of people celebrating the Royal wedding in style. There are more street parties taking place in this borough than almost any other in the country but there is still plenty of time to tell the council that you would like to host your own event.
