CONTROVERSIAL plans to reduce the number of open days at a popular attraction are causing uproar among the community.

Swakeleys House, in Swakeleys Road, Ickenham, has been open to the public since 1984, but changes are now afoot to phase this out.

The Ickenham Residents Association are calling for a compromise between the commercial requirements of the owners and the needs of the community.

The owner's planning application argues that the open days, which run three days a week, do not have a high attendance, although this is disputed by the residents.

The plans submitted are for the number of public open days to be reduced from three a week to one, much to the disapproval of the Ickenham community.

Rachel Moore, chair of the Ickenham Residents Association, said: “The open days are much valued within the community, there has not been any consultation on it, we want the three days to remain.”

The IRA have made their objections to Hillingdon Council and main worries include whether the historical landmark and listed building will remain usable for the Festival of Ickenham, and for the Bowling Club to continue using the grounds.

A meeting will take place on August 27 at the Civic Centre, Uxbridge, where councillors will make a decision on the proposals.
