A crackdown on foreign homeless people sleeping rough in Hammersmith Broadway has seen three people deported.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team and officers from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) have been working together once a week since July to tackle the problem.

Many of the homeless people in the area are from Poland and other eastern-European countries with many having returned home voluntarily and three deported.

A police spokeswoman said: “We receive many complaints about people sleeping rough around this busy pedestrian and transport hub. The officers have worked in close partnership with UKBA to tackle this problem.

“We hope that the local community will see a reduction in the number of people choosing to live rough in the area mentioned.”
